【Reminder!】 Steps to Take When Your Singapore EP Card is Lost, Damaged, or Stolen

  • Sig Tax & AccountingSep 27, 2024

As a foreign employee working and living in Singapore, your Employment Pass (EP) card is an essential identification document. If you happen to lose, damage, or have your EP card stolen, don’t worry. This guide will walk you through the steps to take, helping you resolve the issue quickly and efficiently.

1. Immediate Action: Reporting Promptly is Key

Time is crucial. If your EP card is lost, stolen, or damaged, you must take action within one week. In the case of theft, report it to the police immediately and keep the police report. If the incident occurs overseas, inform your employer as soon as possible and request a re-entry permit from the relevant Singapore authorities.

Inform Your Employer: No matter the situation, notifying your employer immediately is essential. They will assist you with the replacement process.

2. Replacement Costs: Know What to Expect

The cost of replacing your EP card varies depending on the situation:

    • Damaged Card: The replacement fee is SGD 60.
    • Lost Card: The first replacement will cost SGD 100. If you lose it again, the fee increases to SGD 300. Please note that all fees are non-refundable.

3. Fast Replacement: Efficient Processing Steps

    1. Online Application: Log in to the EP eService system, fill in the required information, and submit your replacement request. The process typically begins immediately.
    2. Payment: You can pay the replacement fee using GIRO, Visa, Mastercard, or Amex. Once submitted, the fee is non-refundable.
    3. Approval and Collection: After submitting your application, you will receive an email detailing the collection process and timeline. In most cases, you can collect your new card from the Employment Pass Services Centre (EPSC) within four working days after approval.

Special Note: If your card is lost or stolen, you must collect the new card in person. If it is only damaged, you may authorize someone to collect it on your behalf with a letter of authorization and identification documents.

3. Ongoing Management: Your Responsibilities

The EP card is an important document for working in Singapore, but after receiving it for the first time, there are several other responsibilities to keep in mind:

    1. Initial setup for human resource services in Singapore
    2. Skills Development Levy (SDL) contributions for EP holders
    3. Payslip and salary issuance
    4. Personal income tax filings
